Activities & Benefits of Membership
MONTHLY MEETINGS
Normally, the Saanich Peninsula Arts & Crafts Society holds interesting monthly meetings on the first Monday of October through June at the Mary Winspear Centre in Sidney, B.C.
Given the current COVID-19 pandemic, however, all monthly meetings (and the January Social) have been suspended until further notice. The information below is therefore for “historical” (and, at some point, “future”) reference at the moment.
Meeting times:
- October, April, May and June: evenings from 7pm to 9pm
- November, December, February and March: afternoons from 2pm to 4pm (Note: there is no general meeting in January.)
In addition to keeping up-to-date regarding SPAC activities and business, our general meetings feature a fascinating guest artist discussing their art, style and choice of medium, and a presentation of some of their artwork. Our meetings also feature:
- Artwork of member featured artists
- Meet & mingle socializing with other members
- Refreshments & light snacks
- Extensive borrowing library of art-related books
- Door prizes!
January Social
January’s general meeting is replaced by our popular January Social. A wonderful event, this event provides a dedicated venue for our members to socialize over tea, coffee and delicious food in an casual setting. It also provides us with an opportunity to publicly recognize the remarkable contributions that our active members have made to SPAC. And more door prizes!!
SPRING ART SHOW
SPAC is renown for its long-running, members-only art show every April.
It is SPAC’s intention to have a Spring 2021 show, held in accordance with BC government health protocols. Please see the Spring Show page for more details as they become available.
OTHER EXHIBITS
ART CHAT NEWSLETTER
Emailed to you monthly between October and June, Art Chat is SPAC’s internal newsletter. You would be amazed at how much is going on with our group and the Art Chat team (well, mostly our dedicated and wonderful editor-in-chief) crafts an informative, interesting and fun journal of SPAC’s happenings.
WORKSHOPS
All workshops are currently being conducted and planned in accordance with BC government health protocols. Please see the appropriate page for more details.
Workshops-by-the-Sea
We love bringing in guest artists to put on extended, in-depth training workshops. You can find a list of our current workshops here.
February Mini-Workshops
Every February, we fill some of those dark, dreary winter days with something amazing: the fabulous February Mini-Workshops! These peer-taught classes cover everything from advanced techniques to fun crafts. So popular, that even with over 40 workshops in 2020, the majority of seats were filled within the first 3 days of going on sale! Check out of the most recent year’s mini-workshop retrospective to get an idea of how we fill those rainy days with fun and informative art-filled activities.
POINT OF VIEW CHALLENGE
Each year, SPAC hosts our Point of View (POV) Challenge. After choosing a reference image in the Fall, members are invited to create their own interpretation of the original. Delightfully creative, the results are exhibited at the Mary Winspear Centre in Sidney in the Spring.
