Polymer Clay Jewelry
April 13/14 9:30-4:00
Note: This workshop has concluded.
As a young woman, Irene Corman’s focus was on weaving and pottery. A number of years later, she discovered the infinite color, plasticity and textural qualities of polymer clay. Irene is primarily Influenced by the colors and textures of sea, sand, and sky, B.C., the Southwest, India and the aboriginal art of the Asia-Pacific regions.
From design to execution, the process of making involves conditioning the clay, mixing the colors, deciding on the technique, whether mokume gane, millefiori, surface texturing, and/or layering and then curing once the shapes have been made. Afterwards, pieces may be buffed, or other color applied prior to final construction. Irene accompanies the clay with metal, silver, copper and brass, and sometimes, wood, rubber, or semi-precious stones. Her interest is in creating one of a kind pieces that are comfortable to the touch, beautiful to the eye, and respectful of the medium. Irene Corman is the creator of Blue Dog Designs, named for Blue, her canine studio assistant!
Irene’s artworks can be found at the Eclectic Gallery in Oak Bay, The Gallery at Mattick’s Farm, and the Art Gallery of Greater Victoria.
