Perry Haddock, SFCA

Loose and Lively Acrylics: September 23 – 24, 2017

Perry Haddock is a West Coast Canadian artist. His paintings of West Coast scenes are in an impressionistic style mainly in acrylic. After retiring from a career as a fine arts teacher his travels have expanded his range of subjects to Italian coastal scenes, Paris rooftops and Newfoundland meadows.

Perry describes the goal of this weekend workshop is “to encourage participants to approach landscape painting with an experimental attitude and the idea that, ‘It’s only ten bucks worth of materials. Have some fun.’ That isn’t to say that painting doesn’t require some knowledge of the principles of design and some discipline to apply them.  However, sometimes the anxiety of thinking we have to produce a ‘finished product’ often results in tight drawing, tight brushwork, and slavish attention to photo sources.  Instead, let’s aim to challenge ourselves to ‘loosen up’.  Along the way, we’ll talk about composition, values, and colour as they apply to our paintings.”

Participants are encouraged to bring several landscape photos as references.  The majority of the time will be spent painting, so make sure you have enough photos, canvasses, and snacks.

Perry Haddock is a signature member of the Federation of Canadian Artists and Landscape Artists International. He currently (February) has work in the Village Gallery in Sidney, as well as later in May.
