This award honours the memory of a founding member, CC Thomas, of the SPAC Society. This award was established in 1972 to encourage young people with creative interests and abilities to further their studies in the areas related to visual arts.  The award takes the form of two $1,000 scholarships to assist with expenses relating to pursuing visual arts after high school graduation.  In previous years, award recipients were invited to exhibit their recent work in the SPAC Spring Show held in April each year at Mary Winspear Community Cultural Centre in Sidney BC. For 2024 we will be selecting recipients after the April show so there is no invitation this year to participate in the exhibition.

The award is valued at $1,000 payable to the student upon receipt of confirmation of acceptance into a post-secondary institution/art academy within two years from graduation.  There will be two applicants selected to be awarded a scholarship of $1,000 each.

  • Preference will be given to a student graduating in the current school term (so June 2024) from a School District 63 school (Claremont, Stelly’s and Parklands) and who plans on pursuing further studies in visual arts or crafts.
  • All application requirements must be met by the deadline stated for this award.
  • Previous winners are not eligible.

To be considered for this award, applicants must submit the following:

  • Completed application form.
  • Two to five pieces of work produced with the last two years (digital portfolios are acceptable)
  • A written submission letter explaining why the applicant should receive this award.
  • A brief description of their favourite piece.

All artworks will be collected from the applicant’s school and returned to that school after adjudication takes place.
