Artist Bio – Dominik Modlinski

Dominik J. Modlinski was born in Warsaw, Poland 1970. In 1987 he immigrated to Canada and studied fine arts at Ontario College of Art in Toronto, where he graduated with honours in 1993. It was while studying landscape painting, that Dominik was naturally drawn to the wilderness of Northern Ontario. Following his graduation, he moved to the Algoma region of Ontario to paint at the Algoma School of Landscape Arts. Since then, he peruses his passion to paint the wilderness in various locations around the globe. As a matter of course, Dominik incorporates the journey motif, his creative process and his personal growth into his work.

When he is not traveling, Modlinski shares his art practice between his home on Vancouver Island, British Columbia and his cabin in Atlin, British Columbia.  He also devotes his time to filming and creating his ongoing television series called ‘CHANGING LANDSCAPES’ where he and his best friend travel the world in the quest of adventure and painting locations which is currently running on SHAW television channel. During the time when he is not painting Dominik follows his second passion, martial arts. He has been training for 25 years various styles and currently holds a rank of 5th degree black belt in Karate.

The artist’s work can be found in many private and corporate collections around the world. Having many published articles, included The Artist magazine 25 under 40.  Andrew has also had full feature articles in top art magazines such as International Artist, The Artist UK, Pastel World, Magazin’art, and the Pastel Journal. 

Andrew is a popular workshop Instructor and gives demos and lessons at many educational facilities, he is a life/figure drawing Instructor for the Illustration and Animation department at Capilano University, and for the 3D/ACA/CA Animation departments at the Vancouver Film school and Think Tank. 

Class Description

Step into an enchanting journey that will immerse you in the beauty of the West Coast! This workshop will provide guidance on how to paint a landscape that reflects the beauty of where we live. Dominik Modlinski, a contemporary Canadian Artist, will act as your mentor during this inspiring two-day workshop. This workshop will help you to refine your drawing and painting skills. It will also encourage you to embrace risk- taking and to explore abstract design, composition and colour.

With the guidance gained from this workshop you’ll be equipped with the essentials needed to help propel your work to the next level, and to establish a distinct and unique creative signature. Let your creativity flow and unveil the breathtaking West Coast scenery on your canvas, guided by a mentor who fosters intuitive and unplanned artistic breakthroughs. Using photos that will be provided we’ll draw a few thumbnail sketches, with particular attention paid to values, edges and lines. This emphasis will help you to create a dynamic composition. We will then proceed to the creation of a larger drawing from which your composition can be further developed before transferring it to a canvas.

Dominik will be demonstrating in oil but you can work in acrylic if you prefer. This workshop is intended for those already somewhat familiar with their medium of choice, and hope to advance their understanding of design, colour and the elements of painting technique. Websitepaintingjourneys.com
