A Divine Portrait Workshop
With Arden Rose
DATE & TIME
Saturday, March 19, 2022
10am – 4pm
McTavish Academy of Art
1720 McTavish Rd, North Saanich
Back by popular demand! Arden will lead you to create a piece of art that reflects your true self–one that acknowledges your soul, your vulnerability and the power that is truly you. Create a portrait portraying your Divinity based on your Truths.
We will start with a short introduction, then you will begin to answer some deep questions about yourself. The answers to these questions will help you define who you are, what your truths are, and what you believe in. You will then begin working on your portrait. We want to capture the essence of your truest self. What does she look like? Is she dressed in furs and flanked by wolves? Is she a fairy or woodlands nymph? A warrior, or princess or creator of magic?
Basic instruction is provided on creating an expressionistic portrait including how to draw features. Methods include layering of paint and scraping using a palette knife, glazing and collage.
This is an acrylic workshop for those with some prior experience.
Hurry, there are only 10 seats available!
Arden Rose is a Victoria, BC artist working in acrylic & collage, and recently, in oil & cold wax. She has lived in British Columbia most of her life and spent a great deal of her childhood running wild in the hills on the outskirts of Kamloops. With an Economics degree from the University of Victoria and an MBA from McMaster University, she began to explore her creative side after establishing a mainstream career. Mainly self-taught, she has been influenced by the expressionist movement, fauvism, and Modigliani. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, and Arden sees beauty in the natural world, old buildings, and humanity. All contribute to her inspiration. Her work ranges from impressionistic portraits to bold landscapes and florals. Rose easily captures both joy and wonder and she is colorist at heart. “I love color, dream in color, and live and breathe it, chasing delight, joy, spirit, and momentary beauty.”
Rose is a past member of the Gage Gallery and currently shows her work in a number of venues including the Art Rental and Sales program at the Art Gallery of Greater Victoria. She is a member of The Saanich Peninsula Arts and Crafts Association and the Victoria Arts Council, and owns and operates The Fairfield Art Studio.
